PRESS RELEASE

As a world premiere, MVTec Software GmbH (Munich, Germany) will present the new version of the standard software for machine vision HALCON 10 with live demos at the VISION 2010 in Stuttgart. The official launch of HALCON 10 is scheduled for 10/10/10.

At the VISION, MVTec will showcase live demos running the new features to vividly demonstrate the unique possibilities of HALCON 10. The new version will again provide many innovations for machine vision users. Among others, highlights of HALCON 10 will cover the following features:

Powerful 3D vision
HALCON offers an outstanding amount of 3D vision methods making it the only software needed for any 3D application. The 3D vision power of HALCON 10 was further strengthened with new methods, such as the new "surface-based 3D matching". HALCON's uniquely robust surface-based 3D matching is optimized to also find objects with arbitrarily shaped surfaces in distance images. This method shows its strength especially for rounded and rather edgeless objects. Furthermore, HALCON's new "multi-view stereo" enables to use an unlimited number of cameras for more detailed 3D reconstruction. This compensates occlusions and guarantees robust robotics applications. Moreover, version 10 further improves HALCON's comprehensive calibration technology and introduces "multi-view 3D calibration" for any number of cameras. Finally, HALCON 10 is able to fit 3D primitives by analyzing 2D point clouds.

First class matching in any dimension
HALCON is already well-known for premium matching technology both for 2D and 3D vision applications. As a new method, HALCON 10 provides "local deformable matching" to even find objects with deformed or wrinkled surfaces. Moreover, HALCON 10 allows model generation for deformable matching methods from DXF files. Furthermore, HALCON's shape-based 3D matching is considerably faster, and now provides a fast pose refinement.

GPU and multi-core - the next step in performance
For highest performance, HALCON 10 provides an efficient automatic acceleration by optimal usage of computing power of GPUs based on the OpenCL standard. In addition to this, HALCON's well-known automatic operator parallelization for multi-core processing has been extended and improved to further speed up the library in general. At the same time, HALCON 10 significantly reduces the main memory needed. To speed up classification applications, HALCON 10 now provides LUT-accelerated classification.

Many improvements for identification applications
HALCON 10 provides the new "smart text finder" for robust and easy segmentation in OCR applications. Besides, it contains new and improved pre-trained fonts. For bar code reading, HALCON 10 supports an automatic training mode based on sample images, autodiscrimination of bar code types, and faster reading of composite codes. Moreover, HALCON 10 reads different bar codes in one call.

Easy and fast development
The ease of use of HALCON's integrated development environment (IDE) and the comprehensive HALCON documentation are further improved. For example, HALCON's IDE HDevelop now provides a new measure assistant, and new tools for interactive ROI handling and measuring image distances. Developers now may also use global variables in HDevelop programs and can simultaneously open multiple program windows. HALCON 10 also eases development by a broad range of new HDevelop application examples.

About HALCON
HALCON is the comprehensive standard software for machine vision with an integrated development environment (IDE) that is used worldwide. It leads to cost savings and improved time to market: HALCON's flexible architecture facilitates rapid development of machine vision, medical imaging, and image analysis applications. HALCON provides outstanding performance and a comprehensive support of multi-core platforms, MMX and SSE2, as well as GPU acceleration. It serves all industries with a library of more than 1600 operators for blob analysis, morphology, matching, measuring, identification, and 3D vision, to name just a few. HALCON secures your investment by supporting a wide range of operating systems and providing interfaces to hundreds of industrial cameras and frame grabbers, including GenICam, GigE Vision, and IIDC 1394.
