Software developers and PhD students atESIEE Engineering (Paris, France) have developed an image processing and analysis library that is free to download from the Internet.
The so-called “Pink” image processing library contains implementations of over 200 algorithms forimage segmentation and nonlinear filtering.
While the Pink image processing library has been in development for over a decade, a Python frontend to it is more recent, and enables the library to be used with other packages like SAGE, PyLab or Tkinter.
Michel Couprie, one of the software’s developers, has written a brief description of what is contained in the Pink library as well as a basic example of a Python script that calls Pinkmorphological operators to extract the wires in a printed circuit board image. His short article can be found here.
The complete library has been ported to most of the popular Linux distributions and also runs on Microsoft Windows. It is freely availablehere.
