By combining Icron Technologies Corporation’s ExtremeUSB extension technology and Components Express Inc.’s (CEI) mechanical cabling expertise, the two companies were able to develop the world’s first USB3 vision-compliant 15 meter USB 3.0 active extension cable.

Icron will brand the cable as the USB 3.0 Spectra 3001-15 and CEI will as the BIT MAXX ExtremeUSB 3.0. The cable is a plug-and-play design with no software drivers required, it is supported by all major operating systems, and provides the extension of USB 3.0 devices in commercial and industrial locations such as machine vision cameras, security cameras, and storage drives, according to Icron.

USB 3.0 cameras, with their plug-and-play simplicity, high throughputs, and relative affordability, have been gaining momentum in the machine vision space, according to Steve Mott, Vice President at CEI.

As a result, the two companies converged to create this extension cable.

“CEI and Icron brought together our respective expertise to address a problem identified by a broad installer base in machine vision applications – the distance limitation of USB3.0 cameras,” stated Glenn Antonelli, Vice President of Marketing at Icron.
