Quick hit: Surveillance camera captures double lightning strike up close
A home video surveillance camera in North Jackson, Tennessee recorded jarring footage of two distinct lightning bolts hitting a cluster of trees and causing a sizable explosion only several feet away from the residence.
The camera used by the home owner, identified in his now highly-viewed YouTube video as Philip S, is a Cisco PVC2300 video camera with Power over Ethernet, interchangeable lenses, and I/O ports which allow for flexible installation in a number of applications. PVC2300 cameras feature ¼ inch progressive scan CCDimage sensors with low light sensitivity and an infrared filter switcher which provides optimal video image in multiple conditions. In addition, the video camera features two-way audio, 4x digital zoom, and PC-less event recording directly to network attached storage via integrated Samba client.
Homeowner “Philip S” says he stores the past 12 hours of footage at any given time, and as a result, was able to capture the video of the lighting strikes, which occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30.
