By pairing VITRONIC’s VICAMsnap! Camera system with SMILOG’s smiConnect SAP software interface, automatic barcode reading with a seamless connection to SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is enabled.

VICAMsnap! is an auto-identification system that features a 5 MPixel camera with a 10 fps frame rate which enables operators to capture all 1D and 2D barcodes present on parcels and boxes. It uses white LEDs for illumination, an aiming device that shows the center of a reading field, green and red visual feedback on an object, a barcode/2D code decoder unit, status LEDs, and a GigE interface for image and result data. It also features a C-Mount lens with a working distance of 1300mm, IP54 protective housing, a 12" x 10" capture window, and a minimum depth of field of 12".

SMILOG’s smiConnect offers a preconfigured interface with the SAP software system. Data captured by the cameras is automatically passed on and stored in SAP tables and can be used for additional customer or object-related processes. The system can be installed onto an existing target system, and with it, users can post goods receipts and optimize inbound inspection applications. The collaboration between VITRONIC and SMILOG offers a complete system for data capture, data integration, and speed of implementation.

The system will be on display at SMILOG’ss tand at the LogiMAT 2014 trade fair in Stuttgart from February 25 to 27.
