Robotics Industries Association to host first collaborative robots workshop at The Vision Show
With a goal in mind of propagating information and knowledge on the technology, applications, safety implications, and human worker impact of collaborative robots, the Robotics Industries Association (RIA) will host its first ever collaborative robots workshop at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston on April 16.
The agenda at the RIA’s workshop includes presentations on the current and future state of robots, including:
- An overview of robots and applications by Dr. Henrik Christensen, Georgia Institute of Technology
- A look at collaborative robots and applications, by Edward Mullen, Universal Robotics, Carl Palme, Rethink Robotics, and Erik Nieves, Yaskawa Motoman
- Advances in gripping for collaborative robots, by Samuel Bouchard, Robotiq, and John Amend, Empire Robotics
- Safety issues, by Michael Gerstenberger, KUKA, and Pat Davison, RIA
- Key research efforts impacting collaborative robots, by Julie Shah, MIT, and Reid Simmons, Carnegie Mellon
- The future of collaborative robots, by Dr. Chris Jones, iRobot Corporation
- Future research needs for collaborative manufacturing robots, by Craig Schlenoff, National Institute of Standards and Technology
The workshop and presentations are a reflection of the addition of collaborative robots to the traditional robotics industry.
"Collaborative robots are an exciting and innovative addition to the traditional robotics industry," said Jeff Burnstein, President of RIA in a press release. "But, because collaborative robots are new, there are lots of important questions that users and integrators have, which is why we’ve decided to bring together leading experts to address the key topics at this workshop."
