"Based on the disproportional demand from North America and our excellent on-site industry network, we are extremely excited to complete our global imaging services and to continue the growth of FRAMOS," said Dr. Andreas Franz, CEO of FRAMOS, in a press release.
Mikrotron also followed suit by strengthening its US sales partner network by appointing three leading distribution companies as new distributors. Uniforce Sales and Engineering of California, Upstate Technical Equipment Co., Inc. of New York and MicroDISC, Inc. of Pennsylvania will all now provide American customers with Mikrotron machine vision cameras.
Looking ahead
This past February, industry leaders from all over the world gathered in in Frankfurt, Germany to discuss the current state of the machine vision market as well as the development of future technologies in a CEO round table co-hosted by the VISION trade fair and the VDMA Machine Vision Association. During the European market update portion of the event, Mark Williamson, Director of Corporate Market Development for Stemmer Imaging, suggested that the machine vision market in Europe continues to outpace the growth of traditional industrial markets as a result of the growing need for efficiency, and that this trend should continue moving forward.
"With the low labour (sic) cost countries taking manufacturing capacity out of the world economy, Europe, to stay competitive, has to use automation to keep costs low and keep efficiency high," he said in a press release. “Machine vision is a critical technology in automation that allows us to stay competitive in the world market. The quality of our products in Europe is essential and machine vision ensures that we deliver on that quality."
Elsewhere, machine vision sales are already off to a good start. For the first quarter of 2014, sales of machine vision components and systems in North America grew 10%, according to an AIA report. All in all, signs seem to be pointing toward yet another record year for the machine vision industry as a whole.
