Additional items of note within the press release include:
- Strong growth in Asia, as the surveyed European machine vision companies saw an increase of 28% year over year.
- China accounted for approximately 9% of total European machine vision turnover
- North America purchased almost 13% more, year over year, from Europe.
- European manufacturers of application-specific and configurable systems increased turnover by 12%.
- European manufacturers of compact systems such as intelligent cameras and vision sensors increased turnover by 20%.
- European manufacturers of machine vision components increased turnover by 6%.
- The German machine vision industry increased turnover by 8% in 2013, mainly from exports, which saw a 15% increase in 2013.
- The German machine vision industry is expected to grow by 10% in 2014.
In addition, the VDMA identified a number of trends and predictions to keep an eye on going forward. These include:
- Quality assurance-related machine vision technology is on the rise, particularly in China.
- The demand for non-industrial applications will rise faster than manufacturing applications, especially in intelligent traffic systems, logistics, medical engineering and security.
- The agricultural sector represents a potential high growth area.
- The automotive industry will continue to remain the most important industrial customer for machine vision in the foreseeable future.
- 3D applications will become more popular.
