Teledyne DALSA introduces TurboDrive encoding technology for faster GigE Vision speeds
TurboDrive technology fromTeledyne DALSA is a newly-launched proprietary encoding technology that allows select Teledyne DALSA GigE Vision cameras to achieve increased throughputs of up to 150% while retaining 100% image data.
The patent-pending technology enables GigE Vision cameras to transmit 100% of image information at a rate exceeding the constraints of Gigabit Ethernet. It uses image entropy-based encoding to model pixel information with no loss of information, which enables faster data transmission on the link as each pixel is comprised of fewer bits for encoding.
"We’re pleased to deliver an innovative speed advantage to customers who need to push beyond the current GigE bandwidth limitations with no loss of data," said Mark Butler, Product Marketing Manager for Teledyne DALSA, "It’s available now in our low-cost Linea line scan cameras, and will continue in future area cameras set to launch in the fall."
TurboDrive is currently supported by the Linea Mono 2K GigE camera and the Linea Mono 4K GigE camera. The 2048 x 1 CMOS 2K camera features a standard speed of 52 kHz, but with TurboDrive, can achieve a speed of up to 80 kHz. Additionally, the 4096 x 1 4K camera features a standard speed of 26 kHz, but with TurboDrive, can also achieve a speed of up to 80 kHz.
The technology does not require hardware or software changes to an application or network, but it does require Teledyne DALSA’s freeSapera LT software development kit, which includes a GigE driver.
