VISION 2016: An early look at the world’s largest machine vision tradeshow
Despite being fresh off the heels of the largest AIA Vision Showto date, we wanted to take an early look at VISION 2016, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany from November 8-10, to see what we can expect at the world’s largest tradeshow formachine vision.
First, Florian Niethammer, VISION Team Leader, noted in a Messe Stuttgart press release that the show expects no shortage of new machine vision and imaging products to debut around the show.
"Many exhibitors synchronize their product developments with VISION. That is why we are already looking forward to seeing their product innovations at the 2016 event," he said, noting that he expects to see more than 400 exhibitors once again this year. One of these companies, Silicon Software, notes that VISION is the most important annual event for their company.
"VISION, the leading world trade fair, is the most important event for us," explained Michael Noffz, Marketing Manager with Silicon Software in a press release. "The trade fair organizing team has a really good feel for new issues and thus makes VISION a platform where you can win new customers, as well as a place where the industry can meet up, exchange ideas and create new partnerships and joint projects."
A hot topic that we at Vision Systems Design are not surprised to see identified as such is embedded vision.
"Machines that don’t just see but also understand their environment. Products that previously were only being tested in research centers are increasingly starting to penetrate the market," said Noffz. "Embedded Vision in industrial and non-industrial applications and Automation 4.0 are two issues that are expected to occupy the industry in the medium term, probably for the next 5 years."
Peter Stiefenhöfer from Stemmer Imaging, commented on the latest technological advances, noting that they all have one specific thing in common.
"Machine vision is becoming ever faster, the camera resolutions are becoming better and the interfaces increasingly powerful. We are also very clearly observing that machine vision is becoming more user-friendly – the commissioning or adaptation of systems can be increasingly done by users with minimal experience."
As always, attendees can submit their entries for the VISION Award, which will take place for the 22nd time. The judges’ panel consists of machine vision experts, who will select from all entries the winner of the award, which is given out for outstanding machine vision innovation. Winners receive €5,000, and the opportunity to present the innovation at the VISION press conference. The VISION Award 2014 went to odos imaging for its 3D Time of Flight camera.
Registration is already growing for VISION 2016, with more than half of them coming from abroad, and 275 companies having already registered.
"The share of international exhibitors currently lies at 53%. Three-quarters come from Europe, with the remainder from the USA, Canada and Asia. We are witnessing very strong growth especially from China. Apart from two joint stands for the Chinese CMVU association, there are also a large number of individual stands for Chinese manufacturers," he said.
