BNP Associates, Inc., one of the foremost authorities in the baggage handling industry, has given Cognexapproval for its Airport Baggage Handling Identification (ABH-ID) Solution, which is an image-based automatic tag reader system featuring DataMan barcode readersthat overcomes the limitations of current laser-based bagged identification systems.
BNP Associates performed a rigorous performance and reliability test of the Cognex system and was able to determine that it achieved read rates consistently in the 99% range, which reportedly outperforms current technology in the market
“BNP is one of the world’s top authorities in baggage handling system design and specifications,” said Carl Gerst, Cognex Senior Vice President, ID Products. “We’re very pleased to have met their stringent requirements and to be added to their list of approved suppliers for baggage handling system projects.”
The system from Cognex uses either DataMan 300 or 360 barcode readers, which are available in 800 x 600, 1280 x 1024, or 1600 x 1200 models. The image-based barcode readers achieve a speed of up to 60 reads per second at up to 400 ft/minute. It also features patent-pending Xpand technology, which provides the flexibility to fit into space-constricted environments. Xpand increases the field of view by more than 50% and increases reader coverage across the belt without adding readers of moving parts.
Cognex reports that it is experiencing rapid growth in the bagging handling industry, with completed installations in airports across the U.S. and Europe. This approval only stands to provide opportunities for many more airports across the globe to use Cognex technology, according to the company.
