HALCON 13 machine vision software announced by MVTec
MVTec Software has announced the release of its HALCON13 machine vision software, which is expected to feature an expanded range of functions and capabilities.
HALCON—which will be released on November 1—will provide significantly increased performance for shape-based matching, while also providing improved recognition and reading of damaged, occluded, or incomplete barcodes, as well as deformed data codes. It is also set to feature a new texture inspection tool, as well as enhanced deep learning-based optical character recognition (OCR), as well as the automatic identification of dot print fonts.
Additionally, HALCON 13 will provide an improved surface-based 3D matching tool. By analyzing edges in a model and the 3D point cloud, recognition of objects—especially flat surfaces—is more robust, allowing for the position of objects to be more precisely determined. This method, according to MVTec, is particularly suitable for finding the exact position of boxes in 3D space. Furthermore, the machine vision software will include a new technology for the multi-view reconstruction of 3D objects with surface fusion.
"We are delighted to have addressed the many challenges that our customers face in machine vision tasks even better with this new release. Our software development is largely driven by user feedback. As a result, HALCON 13 is guaranteed to deliver considerable added value to our customers’ imaging applications," said Johannes Hiltner, Product Manager HALCON at MVTec.
Dr. Olaf Munkelt, Managing Director at MVTec Software GmbH, added: "With HALCON 13, we set another milestone in machine vision. Many of our technologies today are still unsurpassed regarding their performance. With this major release, we once again push the limits of what is technically feasible to benefit our customers."
