Vision has become a near-ubiquitous technology, as its used in applications including industrial inspection, process monitoring, medical imaging, security and surveillance, and many more.

One emerging application that has been gaining traction as of late is autonomous vehicles and robotics. Vision is perhaps the most important enabling technology within autonomous vehicles, which include those deployed on land, in the sea, in the air, and even in space. In a keynote presentation from the 2016 Embedded Vision Summit, Larry Matthies, senior research scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, discusses these technologies and applications in depth.
