A standard from the VDI/VDE Society Measurement and Automatic Control of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the VDMA puts forward procedures for assessing classificatory performance during the acceptance of machine vision systems, while also providing examples from industrial inspection technology, which serves as guidance.
VDI/VDE/VDMA 2632 Part 3, "Machine vision/industrial image processing – Acceptance test of classifying machine vision systems," was published in October of 2017 and replaces a draft version from September 2016. In the standard, the various acceptance concepts, including acceptance on the basis of sample catalogs and the acceptance by reference to products from current production are also discussed, along with their advantages and disadvantages.
This standard is intended for users and suppliers alike, and should help at an early stage in avoiding communication pitfalls, according to the VDMA.
