Embedded vision cameras with MIPI CSI-2 interface launched by Basler
Baslerhas developed a new set of camerasbased on the existing dart cameras that feature theMIPI CSI-2 interfacefor embedded vision applications.
The dart camera modules with BCON for MIPI interface can be connected to selected embedded platforms in the Qualcomm Snapdragon extended life product portfolio on a Linux Open Embedded operating system (Linaro). The first available models are the daA2500-60mm and daA2500-60mc (monochrome and color), which feature the 5 MPixel AR0521 CMOS image sensor from ON Semiconductor, which has a 2.2 µm pixel size and can achieve a frame rate of 60 fps. Additionally, the camera comes equipped with the appropriate driver package for controlling the sensor and image acquisition via the MIPI CSI-2 interface and a flexible flat flex cable and small connector for applications with the highest space constraints.
In addition to the camera, an embedded vision development kit based on the DragonBoards from Arrow Electronics and a 96boards.org compliant mezzanine board for the camera module will be available, allowing users to quickly and easily start and test their system setup, according to Basler. The system is designed to be set up and operated quickly and easily through the Basler Driver Package and the company’s pylon Camera Software Suite.
Gerrit Fischer, Head of Product Management at Basler, commented on the collaboration with Qualcomm: "Qualcomm Technologies’ integrated ISPs within Snapdragon embedded platforms are known for their excellent image quality and we are delighted to be able to offer them to our customers. The combination of our camera modules and Qualcomm Technologies’ extended life portfolio is embedded vision at its best - smart, powerful, cost-effective. With Qualcomm Technologies by our side, we're consistently moving forward on our path to delivering embedded systems with unmatched ease of use, outstanding image quality and long-term availability."
Tia Cassett, Senior Director of Product Management for Qualcomm Technologies, also commented: "Qualcomm Technologies recognizes there’s a growing demand for high-quality, easy-to-integrate and perfectly matched solutions for the creation of embedded vision products," said Cassett. "We are pleased to work with Basler, a leader in the field of digital industrial cameras, to introduce a cost efficient, power-optimized camera solution that supports machine learning and edge computing based on Snapdragon embedded platforms."
The Embedded Vision Camera Modules with MIPI CSI-2 interface will be available for purchase from Arrow Electronics in Q3 this year, said Basler.”
