Candescent Technologies Corp. (San Jose, CA) and Sony Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) are planning to jointly develop high-voltage field-emission-display (FED) technology for next-generation 14-in. and larger thin, flat-panel displays. Volume production is expected within two years.

Alliances abound

Candescent Technologies Corp. (San Jose, CA) and Sony Corp. (Tokyo, Japan) are planning to jointly develop high-voltage field-emission-display (FED) technology for next-generation 14-in. and larger thin, flat-panel displays. Volume production is expected within two years.

Philips Semiconductors Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) and Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. in Japan have jointly agreed to develop, manufacture, and market charge-coupled-device (CCD) sensors for digital still and video cameras. The agreement covers the exchange of frame-transfer CCD-related technologies.

Sonoma Resource Corp. (Vancouver, BC, Canada) has agreed to acquire 45% of Biometric Identification Inc. (Sherman Oaks, CA), the creator of Veriprint 2000 fingerprint authorization and verification technology.

FMC Corp. (Homer City, PA) has purchased a 10% ownership of Advanced Machine Vision Corp. (Medford, OR) for $2.6 million.

Imagraph (Chelmsford, MA) has acquired the assets of Western Vision Software (Salt Lake City, UT) and its HLImage machine-vision and image-processing software.
