Spinnaker software development kit, a GenICam 3 API library built for machine vision applications, has officially been released by Point Grey in order to "simplify and accelerate the creation of new vision applications."

Spinnaker was released alongside the company’s new Blackfly S camera, which is currently available in two models: BFS-U3-51S5C-C and BFS-U3-13Y3C-C. The BFS-U3-51S5C-C is a USB 3.0 camera based on the Sony IMX250, which is a 5 MPixel global shutter CMOS image sensor with a 3.45 µm pixel size that achieves a frame rate of 75 fps. The BFS-U3-13Y3C-C is a USB 3.0 camera that is based on the ON Semiconductor PYTHON 1300—a 1.3 MPixel global shutter CMOS image sensor with a 4.8 µm pixel size that can achieve a frame rate of 170 fps.

The SDK features capabilities such asimage sequencer, chunk data, logic blocks and event channel and enables faster development of applications with sophisticated image diagnostics, memory management, debugging, and logging tools. Additionally, users can choose the GenICam reference API or access exclusive Point Grey camera features via the QuickSpin static API. Going forward, new features can be added to applications without upgrading the SDK library files.

"We are excited to leverage the maturity and industry-wide adoption of GenICam3 to provide our customers with a familiar and future-proof programming interface," says Michael Gibbons, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "However, we will continue to support and develop our existing, IIDC-based FlyCapture2 SDK as we recognize many customers already have a significant investment in this library."

Spinnaker SDK runes on on Windows 32-/64-bit 7, 8.1, and 10. Popular languages and software packages such as C, C++, C#, VB.NET, Visual Studio 2010, 2013, and 2015 are supported. Linux Ubuntu 32-/64-bit and ARM 32-/64-bit support is scheduled for later this year.
