Cognex withdraws lawsuit against Matrox
JUNE 5--Matrox Imaging (Dorval, Québec, Canada; www.matrox.com/imaging), a division of Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd., announced that the civil action filed by Cognex Corporation in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts against the Geometric Model Finder and other components of the Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) software package has been dismissed by agreement of the parties. Following a review by its independent technical expert of the relevant portions of the MIL software package under a protective order, Cognex has dropped the suit against Matrox and its distributor. Cognex has also agreed not to sue Matrox, its distributors, its customers, or its users for infringement of the asserted patent by any current MIL product or any future product that locates edges in the same or a similar manner. No compensation, financial or otherwise, was made to Cognex as part of this settlement.
Matrox Imaging will continue to sell the MIL software package without modification to existing and new customers alike. Introduced back in 1993, MIL is the field-proven cornerstone of the Matrox Imaging product line. Its flexible software licensing policy enables customers to only license the algorithms required for a given application.
Up to 20% of Matrox Imaging's growing revenues are continually invested in the development of new software and hardware products that constantly lower the cost of image processing systems. As a result of this significant ongoing investment, Matrox Imaging carefully crafts its new technologies and innovations, including enhancements to the MIL software package, to ensure the utmost integrity of its intellectual property.
