The new cameras will leverage Microsoft Azure cloud computing services.

Microsoft and 3D camera manufacturer Orbbec have announced a collaboration to develop new 3D imaging products and technologies. Orbbec expects to introduce new Time-of-Flight cameras in 2022 that take advantage of its design experience, manufacturing capabilities, and embedded computing technology, and combine them with Microsoft’s 3D sensor technology.

The new cameras will be designed to run advanced depth vision algorithms and leverage Microsoft Azure’s device management, data streaming, and AI analytics capabilities.

“Orbbec’s long experience in manufacturing high-performance 3D cameras makes them a strong strategic partner for developing products based on Microsoft ToF technology and Azure,” said Cyrus Bamji, Microsoft Partner Hardware Architect.

“Orbbec is excited to join the Azure Depth Platform Program, to jointly develop solutions that will enhance the capabilities of both Orbbec and Microsoft’s customer and partner ecosystems,” says David Chen, co-founder and director of engineering at Orbbec.
