SEPTEMBER 18--Andon Electronics Corporation (Lincoln, RI ; www.andonelect.com) offers a line of image-sensor sockets that provide safe and reliable interconnection. The company is ISO 9001 certified. The insulators are FR-4, black laminate to assure a reflection-free surface and coefficient of thermal expansion compatible to the motherboard.

It is important to maintain perpendicularity of the sockets whether it is a DIP or SIP pattern, otherwise the image sensor leads will be stressed and possibly cause movement of the sensor. DIP sockets are easy to handle and to solder on a PCB for optimum perpendicularity. DIP sockets have an open frame to allow other components to be assembled in the open frame, or for cooling.

SIP sockets are ideal when there are larger components or cooling devices in-between the SIPs. The SIPs need to be fixtured to maintain a perpendicular position.
