Andor has designed and released the iXon Life electron multiplying CCD (EMCCD) camera platform, which features single-photon sensitive, back-illuminated EMCCD technology at a price point normally associated with lower-cost back-illuminated sCMOS technology. The camera is available in two models: the iXon 888 and iXon 897. The iXon 888 features a 1024 x 1024 EMCCD sensor with a 13 µm pixel size that achieves a speed of 26 fps at full resolution, as well as a USB 3.0 interface. The iXon 897 features a 512 x 512 EMCCD sensor with a 16 µm pixel size that achieves a speed of 56 fps at full resolution, as well as a USB 2.0 interface. Both cameras feature a quantum efficiency of greater than 95%, deep cooling down to -112°F, and crop mode for higher frame rates using centrally-positioned regions of interest.
