Designed for low light imaging applications, the Falcon III Camera Link camera from Raptor Photonics is based on a new EMCCD image sensor from e2v. The CCD351 GEN III EMCCD sensor from e2v is a 1 MPixel back-illuminated sensor with 10 µm pixel size that offers a peak quantum efficiency of greater than 95% with a total noise floor as low as 0.001 electrons readout noise and a frame rate of 34 fps. The sensor is also three times faster than previous generation EMCCDs, and up to 5000 x EM gain can be applied to it using lower voltages, resulting in reduced sensor aging effects. The camera can be cooled to -148°F for lowest possible background events using Raptor’s PentaVac vacuum-cooling technology. Additionally, the camera features a Camera Link interface and will be available with a range of software drivers including MicroManager and Metamorph.
