OmniVision Technologies, Inc. has announced the release of the OS08A20 CMOS image sensor, which is latest CMOS image sensor to implement the company’s Nyxel technology, which leverages novel silicon semiconductor architectures and processes that address the inherent challenges in NIR detection in image sensors.
Nyxel combines thick-silicon pixel architectures with careful management of wafer surface texture to improve QE, along with extended deep trench isolation (DTI) to help retain (modular transfer function) MTF without affecting the sensor's dark current. The sensor itself is an 8 MPixel color CMOS image sensor with 2 µm pixel size with quantum efficiency enhancement in 850 nm and 940 nm, while maintaining a high-modulation transfer function, allowing the sensor to monitor a larger area, according to the company. The sensor can capture images of up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 fps.
