Headwall Group (Bolton, MA, USA), a provider of spectral imaging solutions and optical components, recently purchased EVK DI Kersschaggl GmbH (Raaba, Austria), a company that specializes in hyperspectral and inductive sensor technologies.

The Headwall Group is a portfolio company of Arsenal Capital Partners, which funds industrial and healthcare companies worldwide. The purpose of this acquisition, say Headwall Group officials, is to build its portfolio and further diversify the Headwall Group’s presence in the industrial machine vision market.

In the machine vision industry, EVK is known for its EVK Helios hyperspectral cameras and data analysis tools focused on extracting relevant information from spectral data.

Hyperspectral imaging is a process that measures wavelengths across the electromagnetic spectrum that are invisible to the human eye to produce images; all EVK Helios cameras measure a wavelength range of 930 to 1700 nm.

EVK is also known for data analysis tools such as EVK SQALAR software, which is designed for spectral data analysis of chemical properties of individual objects, and EVK STREAM Supervisor software, which monitors industrial material flows in real time.

The hyperspectral technologies are used in sorting, inspection, and process control in such industries as food processing, recycling, mining, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

In addition to EVK, the Headwall Group consists of inno-spec GmbH (Nuremburg, Germany), which manufactures industrial hyperspectral imaging systems used in high volume recycling, industrial sorting, and quality testing; perClass (Delft, Netherlands), which manufactures a user interface for automatic segmentation of spectral images; and HOLOGRAPHIX (Marlborough, MA, USA), which manufactures custom replicated optical components and assemblies, including microlens arrays, wafer optics, and nano/micro structures.
