Active Silicon has launched a new CoaXPress over Fiber frame grabber, the Firebird 4xCOF-12. This frame grabber allows the CoaXPress protocol to run over fiber optic cable and is capable of acquiring image data at a rate of up to 40 Gbps. It is GenICam compliant. It has up to four GB of DDR4 memory fitted for buffering between the CoaXPress over Fiber interface and the PCI Express bus. It has a PCIe 3.0 8-lane interface that supports up to 6.8 GBps transfer from frame grabber to PC. Using suitable cables, cameras can be placed multiple kilometers away from the frame grabber.

The Firebird 4xCOF-12 is designed for machine vision applications that require high speed imaging, especially in configurations requiring long cable runs or situations where cameras are placed and operating in harsh electrical environments.
