OCTOBER 21, 2009--The Fastcam SA4 provides 3600 frames/s operation at full pixel resolution (1024 x 1024) and up to 500,000 frames/s at reduced resolution. It supports applications that do not require the highest frame rates but in which features such as extreme light sensitivity, high dynamic range, and image quality with low noise are critical. Compatible with the company's existing camera family and data acquisition devices, the SA4 is also available with an RS-422 remote control keypad with built-in, 5-in. LCD viewfinder for remote operation. It features variable region of interest (ROI) with 12-bit uncompressed data, 1-µs global shutter, and 20-µm pixels. Memory options include 8GB, 16 GB, or 32GB.

PRESS RELEASE

Photron's High Speed, High Performance CMOS Camera
Delivers 3,600 fps at 1,024 x 1,024 Pixel Resolution

San Diego, CA - Photron, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high speed cameras and motion analysis software systems, introduces the high performance, high speed CMOS sensor, the Fastcam SA4, providing 3,600 frames per second (fps) operation at full pixel resolution (1,024 x 1, 024). The newest camera in Photron's Emmy award winning high speed camera family, offers frame rates at up to 500,000 fps at reduced resolution.

The Fastcam SA4 offers an affordable alternative for demanding applications that do not require the highest frame rates, but where features such as extreme light sensitivity, high dynamic range and image quality, with low noise are critical. Compatible with the company's existing camera family and data acquisition devices, the SA4 is also available with an RS422 remote control keypad with built-in, 5-inch LCD viewfinder for remote operation. The camera features a variable region of interest (ROI) with 12-bit uncompressed data, a one-microsecond global shutter, and 20-micron pixels for low-light, high-sensitivity, high speed applications. Memory options include 8GB, 16 GB, or 32GB.

Photron's Fastcam Viewer (PFV) freeware is included along with the software developer's kit (SDK) for users who wish to integrate camera control, replay, and download to their existing software. Composite and SDI video output via the Gigabit Ethernet interface offers real-time monitoring during set up, recording, and playback.

The new imager is offered with an optional sealed, ruggedized housing (Fastcam SA4 RV), designed specifically for dust-free imaging and for conditions where external fans cannot be used. Applications for the new Fastcam SA4 include fluid dynamics, materials test and research, biomechanics, particle image velocimetry (PIV), automotive safety testing, airbag development and test, microscopy, ballistics, combustion, aerospace, and more.
