Using a Welch Allyn iExaminer case attached to a PanOptic Ophthalmoscope, demonstrators at TEDMED2013 were able to perform optic disc visualization. The mobile digital imaging device enables the view and capture of images of the eye, and the adapter aligns the optical access of the PanOptic Ophthalmoscope to the visual axis of the iPhone 4 or 4S camera to capture high resolution (5/8 megapixel) photos of the fundus and retinal nerve, according to the Smartphone Physical website. In addition, the iPhone app from iExaminer allows storage of the images to a patient file and email capability.
