Board permit hot-swapping
Although more than 50 vendors currently support it, many PCI mezzanine-carrier (PMC) boards are not hot-swappable. The GMS CPMC-I/O Eliminator board removes these issues, allowing the system`s integrator to add two PMC modules to the CPCI Bus. Designed to the CPCI hot-swap specifications, the Eliminator allows the board to be swapped without shutting power to the system. Support for 5- or 3.3-V PMC signaling modules is achieved via a strapping option on the baseboard. Two front-panel LED indicators show the strap configuration for the entire board. With front and rear panel I/O for both PMC modules, the Eliminator`s rear-panel I/O is compliant to CPCI Rev. 2.3 for pin definitions, allowing the backplane to be preconfigured for off-the-shelf I/O modules. On-board control logic and power switching for hot-swap functions provide a controlled ramping of the power to the board. This eliminates glitches and transients that can damage on-board devices and other devices on the CPCI bus.
