"What’s next for machine vision?" asks a recent article by Pleora Technologies which outlines five trends that are expected to influence imaging system design in the future.

The first item in Pleora’s list is "moving towards off-the-shelf." There has been an increasing move towards repurposing technologies perfected for the larger IT and consumer markets to help increase efficiencies and lower cost in vision applications, the article notes. As such, designers and manufacturers are employing off-the-shelf technologies in favor of DIY or industry-specific solutions.
