16-Mpixel cameras offer built-in preprocessing
MAY 29, 2009--Two new 16-Mpixel cameras equipped with standard GigE Vision digital interfaces join the "Advanced" series of the multitiered C3 Camera Suite. Both cameras incorporate the Kodak KAI-16000 dual-tap progressive-scan CCD to deliver full 4872 x 3248-pixel resolution at 3 frames/s. The AM-1600GE provides monochrome output; the AB-1600GE produces raw Bayer color output for host-based interpolation. Both models feature user-selectable 8-, 10-, or 12-bit output. Built-in preprocessing achieve high image quality while offloading these tasks from the host PC: a look-up table (LUT) adjusts image contrast (gamma correction); blemish compensation corrects for defective pixels; channels are automatically balanced; and flat-field compensation (available in monochrome models only) corrects for nonuniform sensor response using per-pixel gain and offset adjustments or image subtraction.

PRESS RELEASE
JAI adds GigE Vision to its 16–megapixel camera series
SAN JOSE, California - April 28, 2009 - JAI today announced the release of two new high performance 16-megapixel cameras equipped with standard GigE Vision digital interfaces. The new models join the Camera Link versions introduced in December as part of the "Advanced" series of the company's multi-tiered C3 Camera Suite.
Like the previous models, the new GigE Vision cameras incorporate the Kodak KAI-16000 dual-tap progressive scan CCD to deliver full 4872 x 3248 pixel resolution at 3 frames per second. The AM-1600GE provides monochrome output, while the AB-1600GE produces raw Bayer color output for host-based interpolation. Both models feature user-selectable 8-bit, 10-bit, or 12-bit output.
A series of pre-processing functions are built into the camera to achieve high image quality while offloading these tasks from the user's host PC. Available functions include a look-up table (LUT) to adjust image contrast (gamma correction), a built-in blemish compensation function to correct for defective pixels, automatic channel balancing, and a flat-field compensation function (available in monochrome models only) to correct for non-uniform sensor response using per-pixel gain and offset adjustments or image subtraction.
To ensure reliable performance in industrial environments, JAI subjects its 16-megapixel cameras to the same extensive shock and vibration testing as lower resolution models. This includes shock testing to 70 G, and vibration testing to specifications of 10 G at 20 Hz to 200 Hz in all three directions (XYZ). The camera also features a specialized internal heat sink and a ridged housing design which combine to produce exceptional thermal management and low noise operation.
The new models include the same standard features as the Camera Link models, including multiple trigger modes, pre-set or programmable electronic shutter, partial scanning, and 2X2 binning (monochrome models only). In addition, the new GigE models feature a programmable GPIO module with opto-isolated inputs and outputs, and an innovative Sequence Trigger mode that lets users pre-program the cameras for on-the-fly changing of gain, exposure, and region-of-interest (ROI). The cameras are compatible with any GigE Vision/GenICam-compliant application development tools, and are also supported by JAI's own comprehensive camera control tool and SDK package.
Core applications for the AM-1600GE and AB-1600GE include flat panel LCD inspection, solar panel inspection, PCB inspection, 3D metrology, biometrics, and microscopy, among others. The cameras are also suitable for numerous high-end outdoor uses including high-end security/surveillance, aerial imaging, and traffic applications.
AM-1600GE and AB-1600GE cameras can be ordered with either P-mount or F-mount lens mounts. Custom lens mount designs are also possible for large quantity orders.
