AMT expands machine-vision services

JANUARY 8, 2008--Applied Manufacturing Technologies (AMT; Orion, MI, USA; www.appliedmfg.com), a supplier of factory-automation design, engineering, and process consulting services, is expanding its machine-vision practice to include high-speed product inspection in the food, pharmaceutical, consumer-goods, and biotech markets. This growth supplements the company's current activities in 2- and 3-D robot-guidance applications.

David Wyatt, 25-year industry veteran and founder and former president of Midwest Integration, has joined AMT as staff engineer to provide technical leadership to the company's vision activities. Wyatt brings more than 25 years of automation and vision expertise to AMT after founding Midwest Integration and serving as General Motor's machine intelligence chairman in the mid-1980s. As chairman of SME's Machine Vision Technical Community, Wyatt is committed to providing customers with the most advanced vision technology available.

Machine vision is one of AMT's seven core technologies that also include simulation, mechanical design, control design, software/programming, training and paint processing. Vision is part of the company's general-industry and automotive-business areas.
