Seagate Technology Inc. claims to have achieved a world-record recording density of 23.8 Gbits/in.2, nearly four times greater than that of present commercial hard drives. This new density offers a storage capacity of nearly 32 Gbytes on a single 3.5-in. disk by using advanced GMR recording heads and low-noise, multilayer, thin-film media.
