US health-care company places US$5.7M dental CCD order with e2v
MAY 11--Dentrix Dental Systems (American Fork, UT; www.dentrix.com), part of the Henry Schein Inc. health-care group, has placed a US$5.7M (£3.0M) dental CCD order with e2v technologies (Chelmsford, UK; e2vtechnologies.com/). This is for the continued supply of digital intra-oral dental x-ray sensors, delivery of which will commence in June 2005. The CCDs are to be incorporated by Dentrix into its ImageRAYi digital x-ray imaging system and will be used to capture dental patient x-rays.
e2v is scheduled this month to deliver its 1500th sensor to Dentrix to date. Under the new contract, e2v will deliver a significant volume of additional dental CCDs to Dentrix, starting next month. This follow-on contract is testimony to e2v's technical expertise and operational effectiveness, as well as the successful relationship the two companies have fostered over recent years. Matt Hawkins, vice president of business development, sales and marketing, for the Practice Management and Technology Services (PMTS) Group at Henry Schein states: "Digital radiography is a critically important part of our strategic vision for where dentistry is heading. We have great trust in our partnership with e2v as we pioneer our way through uncharted territories and future growth opportunities."
A digital x-ray imaging system is one of the most important tools at a dentist's disposal for diagnosing and treating patients. After independent testing and evaluation of the leading CCD and CMOS dental sensors available on the market, Dentrix turned to e2v to provide the system's key component: the dental CCD sensor. e2v worked closely with Dentrix to design a customized sensor that was comfortable and easy to position in the patient's mouth, as well as being safe, reliable, durable, and able to capture high-quality x-ray images for effective dental diagnoses. e2v also offered a customer-specific encapsulation, a unique cesium iodine (CsI) scintillator, and special sensor connector to Dentrix. The new dental CCDs were delivered to the specified size, performance and cost, all within Dentrix's constrained time scales.
The benefits that Dentrix and its customers have seen as a result of the partnership with e2v include easier diagnosis; sharper image quality; and increased patient safety.
