MAY 10--At the 3rd European Machine Vision Business Conference in Palermo, Italy (April 29--30, 2005) more than 100 top-level machine-vision experts and executives from 18 countries made it the most successful EMVA conference ever.

Conference track 1 focused on machine vision in Italy--from both the vendor's and user's point of view. Track 2 delved deeply into alternative strategies for growth. Three successful international companies (Basler, ISRA, Innovalia) following different approaches for developing their businesses shared insights. Track 3 dealt with the latest technological trends in machine vision, such as standards, camera sensor technology, and camera interfaces. Track 4 looked at machine vision in robotics (Adept Canada) and in the production of seals and gaskets (Freudenberg). Track 5 focused on tapping new markets with non-manufacturing machine vision applications. In addition, the activities of EMVA were presented, such as the first results of the new European Vision Technology Market Statistics, the EMVA 1288 Standard, and the EMVA Machine Vision Web site .

One of the major aims of the conference, however, was to provide ample opportunities for networking. Evening events and a guided tour of Palermo gave all attendees the opportunity to meet the people that matter and to make valuable contacts.

The next EMVA conference is scheduled to take place in Tampere, Finland, June 2--3, 2006.
