ChromaVision Medical Systems Inc. (San Juan Capistrano, CA; www.chromavision.com), a provider of automated cellular imaging systems (ACISs), has contracted with Pathology Services Associates LLC (PSA; Florence, SC: www.psapath.com), a national network of more than 80 independent pathology groups, to jointly market ACISs to PSA members. The PSA supports local pathologists in providing community care. Five PSA members have already signed contracts to use ACISs.

The ACIS is an automated microscopy system that improves the accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility of cell imaging. Unlike manual methods of viewing and analysis, the ACIS combines proprietary, color-based imaging technology with automated microscopy to detect, count, and classify cells of clinical interest based on color, size, and shape to help pathologists make rapid analyses for early disease detection. Medical organizations in the United States and Europe are using this cell-imaging technology.

Edward W. Catalano (Richland Pathology; Columbia, SC), PSA chairman, says, This arrangement will facilitate the availability of this technology to our member practices. We welcome the advantages that this technology and business partnership bring to our PSA network.

Douglas S. Harrington, ChromaVision chairman and chief executive officer, adds, This agreement is one of our first national contracts with a major laboratory group representing potential ACIS placements. It marks the recognition of the value that ACIS brings.
