Gilden Photonics  has signed a $1.54 million contract with a multi-national life-sciences company to develop and manufacture a hyperspectral imaging system to measure and analyze bodily fluids to detect abnormalities.

Gilden Photonics (Glasgow, UK) has signed a $1.54 million contract with a multi-national life-sciences company to develop and manufacture a hyperspectral imaging system to measure and analyze bodily fluids to detect abnormalities. Gilden designs optical spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging solutions, components, turn-key instruments, and OEM components. Full details of the contract are confidential.

Earlier this year Gilden Photonics was instrumental in establishing the first hyperspectral imaging center at the University of Strathclyde, co-sponsored by the University’s Bridging the Gap Initiative. The center will provide a central location where the basic technology of hyperspectral imaging is available to businesses and researchers to help advance Scotland as a leader in the field.

Gilden plans to double its workforce to 16 on the back of the success. Co-founder and managing director John Gilchrist said the deal will help to increase turnover from £1.2 million to more than £2 million. The company now has five different hyperspectral products that can be used in several areas, including the testing of food and drink, cavity detection in dentistry, and material changes to detect document tampering.
