High-speed imaging course at MIT teaches cutting-edge tech
Watching a bullet slice through an object as thin as a playing card is an impressive sight. It is also an image you cannot capture without the right high-speedimagingsystem.
From Jun. 17 - 20, 2019 on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Dr. Jim Bales will deliver a professional education course titled "High-Speed Imaging for Motion Analysis: Systems and Techniques." The course will teach students about advanced lighting techniques, the latest cutting-edge applications, and how high-speed imaging can be applied for military, manufacturing, automotive, or academic research purposes.
Dr. Bales, Associate Director and Instructor at the MIT Edgerton Center - where much history of the science of high-speed imaging was written - in his course includes leading manufacturers of high-speed imaging equipment such as NAC Image Technology, Photron, Vision Research, IDT Vision, Fastec, among all the other major companies. Students in Dr. Bales's course will have the opportunity to demo high-speed imaging gear and gain insights into the applications supported by this equipment.
The course is designed for scientists, engineers, and imaging specialists to assist them in understanding the optical science behind high-speed image capture including definition of fundamental principles, choosing the correct lenses and lighting setup, and analysis of captured images.
Anyone who works with high-speed manufacturing equipment, evaluates product impact tolerances, observes projectiles in flight or upon impact, studies crash tests, or otherwise needs to understand actions too quick for the eye to follow is encouraged to attend. Interested parties can register at the MIT Professional Education website.
