MARCH 26--FMX Corp. (Elmsford, NY) has been awarded a US patent on electronic fingerprinting technology. Present optical-based electronic fingerprinting systems record only the finger ridges touching a scanned platen. The patented technology (#6195448) provides additional information about the sides of the finger ridges and the valleys between them.
It helps in reading wet, dry, scratched, worn, or scarred fingerprints. These new developments contribute to more accurate identification of people and improved verification of identity.
The new technology generates and maintains a true three-dimensional (3-D) image of a fingerprint in contrast to the 2-D view currently produced, as well as exact downstream matching. It can be applied to various fingerprint-scanning methods such as roll-print, miniaturized, and microminiaturized.
Users of this new technology include law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies, as well as the commercial area-access-control industry.
