OCTOBER 9, 2009--IR right-angle prisms are used to achieve a 90-degree (right angle) light path bend. Three substrate options cover a range of applications. Calcium fluoride, with an index of refraction of 1.434, provides high-performance transmission properties from 190 nm to 7 µm. This substrate is suited for applications throughout the UV, visible, and infrared spectra. Germanium is a dense material with a high index, suited for applications in the 3-12-µm region where the optical path length needs to be maximized. Zinc selenide, commonly used in CO2 laser applications, features transmission from 1-16 µm.

PRESS RELEASE

Edmund Optics Introduces IR Right Angle Prisms

Edmund Optics (EO), the premier provider of optical components, introduces their IR Right Angle Prisms. As their name infers, Right Angle Prisms are used to achieve a 90 degree (Right Angle) light path bend.

Three substrate options for a wide range of applications
Edmund Optics' IR Right Angle Prisms are available in three substrate options to cover a wide range of applications. Calcium Fluoride, a material with a low index of refraction of 1.434, provides excellent transmission properties from 190 nm to 7 µm. This substrate is ideally suited for applications throughout the UV, Visible and Infrared Spectra. Germanium is a dense material with a high index - excellent for applications in the 3-12 µm region where the optical path length needs to be maximized. Zinc Selenide, commonly used in a variety of CO2 laser applications, features high transmission from 1-16 µm.

Uncoated prisms ideal for use with well-collimated light sources
These uncoated prisms utilize total internal reflection for the right angle path bend and are perfect for use with well-collimated light sources. EO's IR Right Angle Prisms with a Calcium Fluoride substrate are available uncoated in 12.7 mm, 25.4 mm and 38.1 mm sizes. IR Right Angle Prisms with a Germanium substrate or a Zinc Selenide substrate are available uncoated in 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm sizes.

All Edmund Optics uncoated IR Right Angle Prisms are in-stock and available for immediate delivery. Custom Anti-Reflective and Metallic coating options are available to meet customers' specific requirements.
