Vision-guided robot provides inspection and decision making capabilities
Lakeview Vision & Robotics (LVR) has announced the release of a vision-guided robotic inspection system for manufacturing processes that provides both automated inspection and decision making capabilities through an exclusive process monitoring tool.
The system is based on an R12 articulated robot arm from ST Robotics, along with an industrial camera and a number of algorithms that work together to increase the quality of product manufacturing while decreasing labor and product liability costs. The SV5M10 monochrome camera from EPIX features a 5 MPixel MT9P031 CMOS image sensor from ON Semiconductor, which has a 2.2 µm pixel size and can achieve a frame rate of 10 fps at full resolution and 89 fps in 640 x 480.
With the camera’s electronic rolling shutter, the system is able to capture many images of rotating parts during inspection. Proprietary software for the system was built using Win32Forth, which provides access to all Windows functions and DLLs.
LVR’s vision-guided robot system can inspect 100% of parts and make multi-dimensional, high-speed measurements to 0.001 inches, often in less than one minute. It also features a graphical user interface, can be used for multiple parts, and consumes a small manufacturing footprint. In addition to inspection, system can also sort and package.
"LVR has spent years of research and development perfecting a smart robot and vision inspection system and there is no comparable solution available today in the manufacturing marketplace," says Ernest Ciccone, President and CEO of LVR Systems. "Depending upon the labor rate, the system could pay for itself in less than a year. A company could easily save a half million dollars in five years."
LVR states that the system initially addressed the orthopedic marketplace, but could also be used in any manufacturing environment where high tolerances and high quality are required.
