SPIE Defense and Commercial Sensing 2018: Sensing and imaging research for a safer world

March 28, 2018
Held this year in Orlando, FL, USA from April 15-19, SPIE Defense and Commercial Sensing (DCS) 2018 will bring together attendees and exhibitors from around the globe for conferences, courses, and an exhibition on the latest sensing, imaging, and photonics technologies for defense and commercial applications.

SPIE DCS will consist of two technical programs that offer 1,900 presentations, according to SPIE:

  • Defense + Security: This technical program will focus on sensors, imaging, and optical technologies for security, law enforcement, avionics/aerospace, homeland defense, and military applications. Machine vision and imaging-related technologies covered include infrared sensors and imaging systems, lasers, radar and LIDAR, imagery and pattern analysis, long-range imaging, millimeter wave imaging, next-generation sensors and systems, augmented reality and virtual reality, hyperspectral imaging, 3D imaging, and UV through LWIR optics.
  • Commercial + Scientific Sensing and Imaging: This technical program offers conferences on sensors, imaging and image processing, and photonics technology innovations for agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutical, transportation, information systems, and environmental applications. Machine vision and imaging-related technologies covered include hyperspectral imaging, fiber optic sensors, computational image processing, comprehensive sensing, wireless sensing, 3D imaging and visualization, spectroscopy, biomedical/physiological “wearable” sensors, autonomous air and ground sensing, sensor fusion, augmented reality and virtual reality, and sensors for next-generation robotics.

The show will also have three focused, topical tracks that highlight hot, emerging topics:

At the show’s exhibition, more than 400 leading industry suppliers and developers will present the latest in optics and photonics. Featured exhibition technologies will include infrared technology, chemical and biological sensing, high-precision optics manufacturing, cameras and CCD components, displays, imaging components/equipment/systems, fiber optic components/equipment/systems, laser and other light sources, optical components (including specialized lenses and coatings), high-speed imaging and sensing, LIDAR, robotics, law enforcement technology, photonic sensors for spectroscopy/multispectral/hyperspectral imaging, and fiber sensors.

In addition, the show will host 34 half and full-day courses which will provide attendees the opportunity to learn current approaches in topics including imaging and sensing technologies, infrared sensors and systems, imaging and data visualization, laser sensors and systems, next generation sensors and systems, sensor data and information exploitation, imagery and pattern analysis, and optomechanical engineering. New courses are also being offered on LiDAR for autonomous vehicles, machine learning, atmospheric LiDAR, infrared sensing, imaging spectrometry, and more. In addition, attendees can earn CEUs from an accredited provider to fulfill ongoing professional education requirements.

There will also be a number of plenary presentations, poster sessions and technical events, and industry events. Additionally, SPIE will hold networking eventsas well as a student networking event.
