Motion controllers provide sub-nanometer resolution
SPiiPlus and MC4U multi-axis motion controllers feature a Sin-Cos encoder multiplier that features 1-Vptp differential inputs that use a maximum theoretical Sin-Cos encoder multiplication factor of 65,536 to achieve required high resolution. With input frequencies rated up to 2.5 MHz, the achievable maximum velocity is not dependent on the selected multiplication factor, enabling the use of ultrahigh-resolution laser feedback devices.

Software recalibrates EMCCD cameras in-house
The latest version of EMCAL, a software method of EM gain self-recalibration for iXonEM+ cameras, circumvents the need to return back-illuminated EMCCD cameras to the factory for recalibration. A routine is triggered that measures EM gain and uses the iXonEM+ built-in temperature compensated linear gain scales to reset the EM gain calibration (if required) and deliver the true values requested on the software scale. The software is available for download directly from the company’s web site.

Board camera achieves 2.5:1 electronic zoom
The IVIN-2M USB 2.0 is a progressive-scan, 1600 × 1200 resolution, 1/3-in., YUV color or monochrome digitally interfaced board camera. Images are acquired using progressive scan at up to 30 frames/s. Electronic rolling shuttering is used to implement auto-iris functionality and/or to eliminate motion artifacts. Manual or auto gain, exposure, and white balance may be selected to optimize the imager analog output to the input range of the 10-bit A/D converter(s). Output resolution is independent of input window, so digital zooming is possible. The optional Varioptic liquid lens focus mechanism allows close-up to infinity focus control done electronically with no moving parts.

Code reader recognizes linear and 2-D codes
The V400-R fixed-mount code reader integrates a visible red LED light source with 1.3-Mpixel CMOS imaging (1280 × 1024 pixels) for accurate reads of 14 standard bar codes and 2-D codes. It automatically recognizes the following commonly used symbologies: JAN/EAN/UPC (A, E), CODE39, NW-7, ITF Industrial2of5, CODE93, CODE128 (including EAN128), RSS (resolution of 0.1 mm) bar codes, and Data Matrix (ECC200), QR Code, Micro QR Code, PDF417, RS (resolution of 0.169 mm) 2-D codes. A built-in aiming guide (green LED) locates the reading area for recognition within a 60-mm working distance and 52 × 41-mm field of view. The reader scans codes twice to reduce discrepancies and ensure data accuracy even if code is oriented in reverse. Functions can be set by menu sheet scanning or by host command method using a signal from either a PC or an Omron PLC.

Download software targets low cost or high end
Adaptive Vision Studio machine-vision software is available in two versions: Express and Professional. Express is a low-cost version aimed at engineers working on computer vision problems. It contains a library of most common image-processing and analysis functions, but it does not include camera support, so only images stored in files can be loaded and used within the software. An evaluation version of Express is available for download. Professional is targeted for system integrators and includes GenICam camera support, GUI Designer component, and more advanced image analysis functions such as barcode identification, Data Matrix identification, OCR, and template matching. Familiarity with programming techniques is not required as the built-in filter library is available through a point-and-click interface. If problem-specific functions are needed, more advanced users can develop their own custom filters using C++ code.

X-ray camera has 8 × 8 in. sensing area
The Skia-Graph 8, based on the RadEye100 sensor, consists of eight sensors that are tiled in a 2 × 4 matrix for a total active sensing area of 8 × 8 in. (20 × 20 cm). Each RadEye100 consists of an array of 512 × 1024 photodiodes on 96-µm centers, providing a total panel resolution of 2048 × 2048 pixels. A Gd2O2S (Gadox) integrated direct-contact scintillator converts x-ray photons into visible light that is sensed by the CMOS photodiodes. Steel shielding protects camera electronics from the x-ray radiation, which is optimized for the standard 10–50-kV energy range. Specific applications include inspection of agricultural and food products, electronics and mechanical components, PCB and BGA inspection, beam profiling, contraband detection, and scanning packaged products for foreign objects.

Embedded vision sensor works in stand-alone mode
The SVS1 series relies on a completely embedded vision sensor. Image processing is completely carried out inside the sensor, which is able to work in stand-alone mode after setup. No PC is needed for the configuration. The VSC unit, an external configuration unit with 3.5-in. color display and push-buttons, can provide real-time monitoring of images, but it is not required during the functioning of the sensor and so can be disconnected and used to set up multiple sensors. SVS1 offers tools for tasks such as product orientation on conveyor belts, presence/absence on assembly lines, and overprinting controls on packaging machineries.
